The study, featured in the Wall Street Journal and Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, is the first to quantify the economic benefits to the community from the higher graduation rates and fewer run-ins with law enforcement for students who participated in the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP).
The key findings of the study include:
- A nearly $500 million benefit resulting from increased graduation rates.
- A nearly $25 million benefit as a result of fewer felonies
The Milwaukee Parental Choice Program is the oldest in the country, allowing parents to use a voucher to send their children to a private school of their choosing. It currently serves more than 27,000 students.
This event takes place during National School Choice Week (NSCW), an annual event to raise public awareness of the profound importance of education options. These options include traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, online learning, private schools, and homeschooling. In 2017, more than 20,000 events will be held in all 50 states celebrating education options.
