Join us for a closer look at groundbreaking new research on Wisconsin’s school choice programs. New peer-reviewed research published in the Journal of School Choice — the first student-level analysis of Wisconsin’s statewide and Racine choice programs, and the first look at Milwaukee’s in 15 years — tracked more than 100,000 Wisconsin students over five years.
The finding: students who stayed in Wisconsin’s choice programs longer posted significantly greater reading gains than similar public-school peers, with the advantage growing the longer they stayed enrolled. Students with four or more years in a program saw gains equivalent to a full additional year of learning or more — achieved at a fraction of the per-student cost of a public school education. For years, critics have called the evidence on school choice “mixed.” This research closes that gap for Wisconsin — and it should reshape how policymakers evaluate choice programs going forward.
Join Dr. Will Flanders, WILL Research Director and co-author of the study, for a walk through the findings and what they mean for the future of educational choice in Wisconsin and beyond. Presenter: Dr. Will Flanders, Research Director, Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty
